Pavilion, NY - Mary E. Weber, age 93, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning February 18, 2025.

     Mary was born on June 9, 1931 in Buffalo, NY, the eldest daughter of Kenneth and Mary E. Sauer Murtha.  She was a wonderful and loving mother and Pavilion community leader.  Mary was married to Jake on March 31, 1951 in Warsaw, NY and was married for over 71 years

     Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.  Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jake, in their motorhome around the United States and Canada as well as traveling in Europe.  Mary and Jake belonged to three motorhome clubs and Mary held leadership roles in all of them including being elected for several terms as the NYS Coachman Club President.

     Mary will be sadly missed by her son, Steve Weber, daughter, Marcia (Matthew) Mess, grandchildren, Jay (Shannon) Knower, Joshua Mess, Amanda (Paul) Thompson and Emily (Christopher) Hermann and several great grandchildren.  

     Mary was predeceased by her siblings: Marge Parmerter, Monica Sikes, Kenneth Murtha, Robert Murtha, David Murtha, Gerald Murtha, John "Jack" Murtha, Daniel Murtha and Maureen Waterose.  She is survived by her sisters, Madeline Beach, Kathy Murtha and Jean (Walt) Vincent.

     Mary graduated from Warsaw High School in June 1948.  After marriage she enjoyed being greatly involved in the Pavilion community organizations including St. Mary’s Ladies of Charity, the Pavilion Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Monday Club, and a founding member of the Hollwedel Library in Pavilion, NY.  Mary held all library offices multiple times and oversaw the initial construction of the new library.  Mary also held numerous offices in the NYS Banker’s Association and the Western New York Women’s Club.  She was also a longtime member of the Covington Daylighters and marched in area parades with the Pavilion Fireman’s Auxiliary. 

After marriage, Mary worked at B.R. DeWitt Inc. as B.R.’s personal secretary.  She later began her career as a banker at the Pavilion State Bank in Pavilion where she worked 28+ years.  Mary held various roles including Vice - President of the bank.  Mary graduated from Genesee Community College and took several banking courses around the United States.

     Mary and Jake built their family home which burned to the ground in December 2021. They enjoyed square dancing and round dancing and belonged to several dancing clubs.  Mary loved crafting, counted cross stitch, needlework, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, quilting, tending to her flower beds and designing/sewing clothing outfits and coats.  She had the latest in computerized sewing equipment and had a virtual tailor shop.

     There will be calling hours at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church at 11095 St. Mary’s Street, Pavilion, NY on Monday, March 10th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am followed by a mass at 11:30 am.

     Mary’s burial will be on Tuesday, March 11th at the Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke, NY at 11 AM (Those attending will need to arrive and assemble by 10:45 AM).  There will be military honors for Jake’s ashes, which will be placed in Mary’s casket.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary’s family at 11256 Perry Road, Pavilion, NY.
