Maidul I. Khan Obituary

Batavia ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Maidul Khan on July 6th, 2025. 


     Dr. Khan was born to Nurul and Rokea Khan in Tangail, Bangladesh in 1937 and was one of 11 children.


     He graduated from the University of Dhaka Medical School in 1959 at the age of 22 and then worked as Medical Officer at a paper mill in Bangladesh for two years.  In 1961 Dr. Khan emigrated to Pontiac, Michigan where he completed his medical internship in 1962 and then his medical residency in 1965.  In 1967 he completed a two year fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Howard University and then moved to London, Canada where he earned his specialist certificate in internal medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1968. He then went on to earn his PhD in pharmacology from the University of Western Ontario conducting some of the early research in the use of beta blockers following a heart attack. 


     Dr. Khan married Erika Koslowski in 1971. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1972 where he worked at the VA hospital and then moved to Batavia, NY in 1973 where he served as Chief of Medicine at the VA hospital before entering private practice in 1975. Dr. Khan then spent the next 33 years serving the community providing outstanding care for patients until he retired in 2008.


     He is predeceased by his son, Wally.  He is survived by five of his siblings, his wife, Erika, son, Michael (Cynthia), and granddaughters Emma and Alexandra, who were bright lights in their grandfather’s eyes.


     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Avenue, Batavia, NY. 


     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia, NY or a charity of your choice.
