Jane Barbara Stein
September 9, 1932 – September 26, 2025
Jane Barbara (Lumley) Stein, 93, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on September 26, 2025.
Born in Toronto, Canada, on September 9, 1932, Jane was the third of four children of Albert T. and Ethel Maude (Foster) Lumley. She married the love of her life, Louis J. “Bud” Stein, on September 11, 1950, at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church in Coldwater, NY. Jane became a naturalized U.S. citizen on November 22, 1957, and together she and Bud built both a family and a legacy. Side by side, they raised five children and grew their farm into Louis J. Stein & Sons through years of determination, faith, and hard work.
Later in life, Jane was blessed to share companionship and joy with her second husband, Frank Pierce, who also predeceased her.
Her children survive Jane: Mark (Marge) Stein of Summerville, GA; Dale (Lillian) Stein of LeRoy, NY; Ray (Shelley) Stein of LeRoy, NY; Kathleen Stein of LeRoy, NY; and John (Beth) Stein of Cartersville, GA. She was a proud grandmother to Krista (Mike) McCullough, Willie Mills, Nathan (Kellie) Stein, Natasha (Richard) Sutherland, Casey (Zach) Stein, KellyRose (Ben) Nichols, Jerrod (Katie) Stein, Elijah (Sammy) Stein, Julia Stein, Jill Stein, and Bethany Stein. Jane’s greatest joy was her growing family, including thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and another blessing on the way. Jane is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bud, her precious son Kenny, and her cherished granddaughter Zoey. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Joyce and Lois, her brother Raymond, and all of Bud’s siblings—Art, Hubert Ray, Kathryn, Helen, and Paul—along with their spouses. Her passing marks the end of an era, as she now joins Bud and their generation reunited in Heaven.
Education was important to Jane. She earned her GED, went on to graduate from Genesee Community College with a nursing degree, and worked at the University of Rochester Psychiatric Center. After her retirement in 1988, she embraced her love of travel, enjoyed winters in warmer climates, and cherished the freedom to explore the world. She also spent many happy summers at the family’s lake cottage on Lake Nipissing, Canada, where she found joy surrounded by nature and loved ones.
Jane’s interests reflected her vibrant and independent spirit. She had a keen eye for fashion, appreciated a chilled glass of Riesling, and was deeply connected to her Gully Road community. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in LeRoy.
The Stein family extends heartfelt gratitude to Laurie, Margie, Molly, and Peg for their exceptional care and devotion during the past year.
Jane’s life was one of love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends are invited to Jane’s Rite of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, October 3 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.
