June C. Shafer Obituary

June C. Shafer (Curry), age 78, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Batavia, New York.

Born on April 5, 1947, in Kingston, New York, June was the daughter of the late James and Blanche Curry. She grew up with a strong sense of family and community that would guide her throughout her life.

June dedicated much of her professional life to education, working as a Teacher's Assistant at Pavilion Elementary School. Her commitment to supporting young learners left a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike. After many years of service, she retired from the school with the quiet pride of someone who had made a meaningful difference.

Outside of her work in education, June was passionately involved in her church community. She served for many years as the Junior Choir director at East Bethany Presbyterian Church, sharing her love of music and faith with younger generations. Her leadership and dedication enriched the spiritual lives of many and created cherished memories for those who sang under her direction.

June also had a deep affection for animals, especially her beloved dogs—Taz, Legend, and Shadow—who brought joy and companionship into her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Shafer; two daughters, Karen Thompson and Pamela Franklin; and many others whose lives were touched by her kindness and care. She was predeceased by her parents, Blanche and James Curry, as well as her sister Joan Gilbert.

June’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
