My mom and George's dad were first cousins. Ironically, I spent today trying to track down George's brother, Patrick, and his sister, Marie, because they were on my mind for several days. I had no idea that George has passed. Through my search, I learned of George's recent passing. I apologize for not knowing. I remember George from family reunions years ago. Always enjoyed his company and the company of his family. Prayers for his family and friends.

My dear neighbors, George and Carol Purcel. My twin sister and I used to babysit your beautiful daughters. George was always available to fix my car when it broke down. I will always remember his smile and kind heart. My prayers are with all of you. He will be sadly missed.

Like Andrea, Bill and I and our kids broke down at dusk, in rush hour, in winter on 490. It was cold. We called George who called a friend to drive another car that we could load the family in and get them home. They showed up faster than one would think possible and even though it was dinner time and cold he had a big smile on his face. Our kids always kept up with George because they liked him. What a great guy. Liz and Bill Harris

George was one of the best people I knew. He was giving of his time and his friendship. I had brought this awful car and George helped me keep it on the road. At our last class reunion he introduced me to the man who bought my family home so I could ask him about the changes. My very heart felt condolences go out to Carol and the family. He will be missed by so many people.

George was a great guy. Over the years. I looked forward to taking a car to him for repairs because that would give me a chance to talk with him. The town will miss him.

Many great memories of George. My condolences to Jeff, Patrick and Marie, all of whom I grew up with on York Rd, and to the entire family. George was a kind and gentle man. Of course, one of the many great "Lime Rockers." I had the pleasure of playing on the Lime Rock softball team with George in the late 1970's...such great memories. Rest in peace my friend. May god bless you and your family.

I always enjoyed a good conversation with George, the history of building things around his house, his collection of "cool old stuff", and his life experiences. He was a wealth of knowledge and had an amazing ability to totally hold his audience's attention. He will be missed

George was a special person! My favorite memory goes back 50 years. I was a young mother wirh a five year old and 18 month old child in my car and 8 months pregnant with a third child. The brakes went on my car in the middle of Batavia main st at 5:00 on a Friday night. At that time, there was alot of traffic! My husband was at work. I found a pay phone and called him. He called George who immediately came and rescued me. I never have forgotten the kindness and thoughtfulness he showed. This all happened near a garage in Batavia. Before I called anyone, I tried them but they told me they were closing. George came! He genuinely cared about people. He will be sadly missed by many people.
