Barbara Fernaays, born on May 2, 1947, to Kenneth and Madeleine Wetherbee, passed away at her home in Le Roy, New York, on May 11, surrounded by the love of her family and the faith that guided her throughout her life.

     Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others. She earned her LPN and RN degrees before later receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Women’s Studies from SUNY Brockport in 1992. Following her graduation from nursing school in 1967, Barbara went on to serve as a nurse for 45 years. Nursing was more than a profession to her — it was truly her calling. She cared for every patient with compassion, kindness, and dignity, touching countless lives through her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion.

     Barbara was the beloved wife of 46 years to Daniel Fernaays. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Brenda Kemp and Patti (Joseph) O’Brien; her brother-in-law, Thomas Fernaays and his wife Patricia; her sisters-in-law, Joan Fernaays and Cheryll (late Michael) Fernaays; her cherished nieces and nephew, Allison (Kemp) O’Shea, Meredith (Kemp) Baigrie, and Kenneth Kemp; along with many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

     Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, selflessness, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion, grace, and faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now resting peacefully in God’s eternal care.

     Family and friends are invited to attend Barbara’s Rite of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  A reception will immediately follow the mass at the American Legion, 53 W. Main Street, LeRoy.
