William E. Jones Obituary

William (Bill) Ernest Jones died peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 31st, 2026 in LeRoy, NY. He was born in Batavia NY, December 17th, 1936.


     Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Jones; his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra (nee Tompkins); his son, Randy J. Jones and his brother, Dr. Robert E Jones. He is survived by his children, Dia Hunter, Jay (Donna) Jones and Amy (Michael) Rose; nephews, Doug (Pam) Jones and Rick (Mercedes) Jones and niece, Karen (Mark) Harris; along with six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and multiple cousins.


     Bill was a 1961 engineering graduate of Oklahoma University. He worked 37 years for United Technology Corporation while living in Manchester Ct. He was proud to be a flight engineering analyst for the Fuel Cell systems aboard the many Apollo and Space Shuttle spacecraft between 1962 through 1998. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved back to their hometown of LeRoy, where he tirelessly volunteered for the LeRoy Historical Society for many years. He also dropped 10 shots off his golf game and at 80 years old, he checked skydiving off his bucket list. Throughout his life, Bill’s passions, beside his work, were camping, canoeing, woodworking, golf and helping family and friends.


     A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 11:00 AM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy.


     Interment will be private at the convenience of his family. Please extend the courtesy of no flowers. Memorials may be directed to the LeRoy Presbyterian Church, 7 Clay St., LeRoy, NY 14482 or the LeRoy Historical Society, 23 E. Main St., LeRoy, NY 14482
