Obituary of Theresa D. Butera

LeRoy ~ Theresa D. Butera, age 95, passed away into the open arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 12, 2015, while in the loving presence of her family at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Miss Butera was born May 29, 1920 in Pittston, PA, a daughter of the late Louis and Josephine Palumbo Butera. She spent and devoted her entire life to the Roman Catholic Church. She began her secretarial career at St. Joseph's Church in LeRoy under Fr. Stanly Ormsby. She eventually, along with then, Msgr. Ormsby, relocated to Niagara Falls, N.Y., where they were both instrumental in establishing Our Lady of the Rosary Church. She remained there until her retirement as secretary and personal aide to Msgr. Ormsby, having amassed over 60 years of dedicated service to the Catholic Faith. Miss Butera is survived by her loving sister, Rita O'Connor of LeRoy; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Peter, Catal, Ignatius and Frank Butera, all of Pittston, PA; Mary (Louis) Frank, Leona (John) Mancuso, both of LeRoy, Charles (Meta) Butera of Livonia, and a brother-in-law, Thomas O'Connor of LeRoy. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 ~ 8 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19). Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Joseph's Oratory, 27 Lake Street, LeRoy. Interment will immediately follow in St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 44 Lake St., LeRoy, NY 14482.
