Batavia ~ Rodney C. Hanlon, age 70, of Galloway Road, died Wednesday morning (Feb. 20, 2013) at the New York State Veterans Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rod was born March 22, 1942 in Shelton, WA, a son of the late Maxwell “Max” and Dorothy Irwin Hanlon. Rod was a retired Special Agent with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. He worked out of the Great Falls, Montana area. He enforced Federal wildlife laws protecting threatened and endangered species. Rod worked extensively with the U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Blackfeet American Indian Nation. He enjoyed patrolling the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area with the help of his horses, Willie and Roy. Rod’s hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He was a lifetime member and former president of the Uptown Optimist Club in Great Falls, a service club to support youth in the community. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Morse Hanlon, three daughters; Tina (Elliot) Inman of Cary, NC, Sarah (Dennis) Kuntz of Whitefish, MT and Laura (Stephen) Orey of Loganville, GA, along with five grandchildren. There are no prior calling hours. Services will be scheduled at a future date. The courtesy of no flowers is requested. Memorials may be offered to Volunteers for Animals, P.O. Box 1621 Batavia, NY 14021.
