LeRoy / Pavilion ~ Joseph A. Socko Sr., age 83, of Linwood Road, passed away at home in the loving presence of his family on Monday morning (Sept. 30, 2019).
He was born April 5, 1936 in Shamokin, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Ruthkowski Socko.
Joseph will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing music. He was very talented and able to play the accordion, keyboards and the harmonica. He also loved his job with Nothnagle Explosives, claiming he loved "blowing things up".
He is survived by his children, Joseph (Cheryl) Socko of Niagara Falls, Eleanor Valdes of LeRoy and Timothy (Linda) Socko of FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Ronald (Bonnie) Socko of Niagara Falls; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Socko of Niagara Falls; very special friend, John Zalar, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Geneva Hurley Socko in 2010 and his siblings, Bobby, Lenny, Jimmy and Marion.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 10 ~ 12 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road, LeRoy, where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest next to Geneva in St. Francis Cemetery immediately following his funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
