Obituary of Barry A. Ganzhorn Sr.

Caledonia ~ Barry A. Ganzhorn Sr., age 77, passed away Friday evening (January 24, 2020) at home in the loving presence of his family. Mr. Ganzhorn was born February 14, 1942 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., a son of the late Wilbur and Esther LaRock Ganzhorn. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who just cherished his family. He deeply loved all his grandchildren, better known as his "little critters". Besides his love for his family, Barry was truly dedicated to his faith and his community. With his passion for wildlife and the outdoors, Barry was instrumental in planning and constructing the MacKay Wildlife Preserve on Spring Street. He also was devoted to the upkeep and care of St. Columba Cemetery. He will be sadly missed by his children, Barry (Pam) Ganzhorn II of Albion, MI, Mark Ganzhorn (Tammy) of Rochester and Laura Ganzhorn Wolcott (Jim) of Caledonia; his sisters, Patricia (Ed) Walker of Lewiston, N.Y. and Barbara Bastian of AZ; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Diane (Michael) Lindhurst of N. Tonawanda, Marlene (Ronald) Huff of Retsof and Dawn (Mitchell) Yencer of Nunda, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends and his other special family, his co-workers at the Town of Caledonia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharyn Eddy Ganzhorn on January 23, 2016 and his son, Brian S. Ganzhorn on May 17, 2015. Family and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Columba Church, 198 North Street, Caledonia, with a graveside service to follow in St. Columba Cemetery. A reception to follow Barry's services will be held at Jones Hall.
