Obituary of Elizabeth Carrie Gales

Elizabeth Carrie Gales of Greece, New York passed away on July 7th.2022. 

     She was born in Rixeyville, VA to the late William and Annie Tyler Gales on April 23, 1930. 

     Elizabeth (affectionately known as Carrie) came to LeRoy, NY at the age of 16 to live with Asbury and Mildred Gales, her Uncle and her Aunt. 

     At the age of 19, Carrie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.  She enjoyed singing on the choir at the Church of God in Caledonia, NY for many years. 

     In 1950, Elizabeth was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late General Robert JacksonFrom this union two daughters were born Diana Lynn (1952) and Dolly Lois (1953). 

     A Licensed Cosmetologist, Carrie did hairdressing for years in Caledonia and in LeRoy. She formed a friendship with many of her customers and she formed a bowling league with them- bowling for years in Batavia, NY 

     Enjoying many hobbies, Elizabeth was a true crafter. She was an excellent seamstress, creating and altering garments for many people. An avid painter, Elizabeth enjoyed water coloring, oil painting and painting with acrylics. These painting adorned her home. Other hobbies include crocheting, and quilting. 

     Elizabeth worked at the Sylvania, Union Steel Chest and She worked and retired from Eastman Kodak. Still wanting to serve others, Elizabeth went into Home Health Care training and worked for many years nursing her clients back to health. 

     Elizabeth will be missed by her daughter Dolly, who for 2 years was her sole caregiver when she was stricken with Alzheimers. She will be missed by her grandchildren/great grandchildren; great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-laws, a god daughter, 2 god sons; a dear friend, Virginia Drayton. 

     She was the wife of the late General Robert Jackson, the mother of the late Diana Lynn Shanks. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.    

     In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center at 2652 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626.
