Amy & family: I am so sorry to hear the news of Jim's passing. The first memory that came to mind was you purchasing your first home on Oatka Trail. Iso enjoyed working with you both. You are a great couple. The two of you have lived a lot of life since then. You only had your first child at that time. Jim was a great man and I am sure you all have beautiful memories of a great family life to carry you forward. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Jim was a excellent engineer, coworker, and friend to all of us at L3HARRIS. I worked with Jim over 20 years in optics. Jim was a very cheerful person and always smiling making the atmosphere at work pleasant. He was a witty person and sometimes would bring up old songs or movies depending on what the team was doing that day. The word myrrh he would say often and then say it's a funny word we would all laugh by the way he said it. Jim never boasted about how much he knew but explained things maybe more than once so we all would understand. I often heard Jim giving others car advice because he would know off the bat what was wrong. Jim was very ambitious when we worked and gave the team the confidence that we can achieve anything even when we had hiccups going on around us. The ideas Jim had at work were very impressive just give him a minute and it would be figured out. There was a sense of comfort working with Jim. We would see pictures of family and granddaughter he was always so proud, and another grandchild on the way he mentioned before he left work. Jim worked even in so much pain his last weeks at work what a unbelievable person. Gods gift to all of us at L3HARRIS he is missed dearly everyday. God had different plans than all of our prayers for miracles for him. So sorry to Amy, family, friends and coworkers of Jim. Praying for comforting and peace to all. There is another angel in heaven for sure. RIP Jim. "Brew"

I worked with Jim for nearly 18 years from the Kodak to L3Harris companies, and even was privileged to have him work under me for a short time. For the many years earlier I came to know him as a quiet respectable engineer who knew what he needed to get the job done. He was a master of his area and it was clear that when he was talking about something technical that's when you closed your mouth and opened your ears. It was only when our work relationship changed that I began to understand that not only was he a good engineer but an amazing caring person. Jim made decisions and plans to ensure that not only our product was safe but that everyone on his team was as well. He wanted those around him to be successful and respected everyone equally. Jim was one of the good ones and will be missed by everyone.

Walking Side by Side
Jim and I spent a lot of time together as kids in middle and high school. We had a lot of classes together, of course. We played freshman football and a season of track at Eden. We sat together in band. But I’ll never forget the time we spent driving to festivals and marching in the drum corps. We did parades all over - summer after summer. Those were fun but we probably had a lot more fun just driving to the parades and practices and hanging out. One thing we used to laugh about was that whenever we walked somewhere together, we naturally fell into step together. After all those practices and parades, we couldn’t help it. If I had to guess, I’d bet he could probably still hear “Street Beat #2 in his head any time he went for a walk!
My deepest condolences to Amy and the entire family. I will always remember Jim as a terrific friend and treasure the times we shared together.

I am deeply saddened with Jim’s passing. He was a supportive colleague and friend to many. He took a couple of turns as supervisor in my group, and more than once I had to call him when my oldest kid experienced a severe health crisis. Every time he was supportive and said just what I needed to hear, even the time he told me “I am at a loss for words.” Now I am the one at a loss for words.
As I take on some of Jim’s responsibilities in Precision Optics (it should be noted that we have about 3 people trying to keep up with all the work Jim was doing by himself), I am grateful for the legacy he has left. In my career, I’ve picked up jobs from some well-organized, productive, smart people. Jim was all that, of course. But most of what I’ve noticed as I step into his space is the team he had built around him. We do precision work with large, breakable objects, and can only be successful when team members trust and respect each other. Jim set the tone of trust and respect while bringing in the levity to help everyone get through the day. He was realistic but not negative. He took his job seriously but could make light of it. In short, he made Optics a good place to work.

I had the great privilege of being mentored by Jim over the course of this past year. One of the things I admired most about Jim was the way he would carry himself in conversations and just knew exactly how to ease and calm situations. Anytime I or anyone else needed help with something without fail he was always there to help out. So many times he would go out of his way to answer my millions of questions and honestly he had such an admirable patience. Every morning we would sit at his desk to chat about all sorts of things like cars, house work, random fun facts, and I even got to teach him some Spanish again. Jim was such an amazing person to work with and to be taught by him, I'm thankful to have shared some time with him.
I am sorry for your loss. He will be remembered and his presence will be missed.
May he rest in peace.

Dear Bolton Family,
I am very sorry for your loss and was very saddened to hear of Jim's sudden illness and passing. I will miss him deeply as I worked with Jim since he joined Kodak/L3Harris so many years ago and considered him a dear friend as well as a co-worker. He was very easy to talk to whether it was about work or personal life - I still fondly recall a business trip he and I took back in the early 2000's to purchase the large furnace we have at work, and it pleasantly reminds me of him every time I pass by it. It has been a blessing to have known Jim all of these years, and the Bolton family is in my thoughts and prayers for peace during this difficult time. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.
Sincerely,
Steve Oliver

To the Bolton Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Jims passing. I have had the pleasure of working with Jim for the past five or so years. As others have mentioned Jim was great to work with. He was a friendly, smart, and hard-working man. He excelled at solving problems whether they involved work, housing or a well-used vehicle. When I ran into work problems, Jim was willing to help, although a bribe involving a small bag of Fritos or a couple of Fig Newtons never hurt. I miss his Monday morning weekend recaps. His love for his family was evident in the way his face would light up talking about your activities and accomplishments.

Jim and I shared a similar interest in AMC cars . When everyone else was laughing we enjoyed our rides . Jim was always under the hood doing something, I’m not sure if it was for fun or the need to get the car started. What ever it was he always had a smile on his face ,he really enjoyed his cars . I will always remember his smile and humor
Love you brother

To Amy and the Bolton family, please accept my deepest condolences. I'm heartbroken over Jim's passing. He was well loved and respected by everyone in our department at L3Harris from the newest employee on the floor to Program Managers and Directors. Jim was an excellent Engineer; always creative and willing to take on any challenge. If Jim was on my team I knew he would be successful with whatever challenge he faced. Jim was measured with his words, and when he spoke it was always something important and insightful. I enjoyed his penchant for puns and plays on words. Being roughly the same age, I enjoyed picking up on his music lyric and movie dialogue references. Jim had a great laugh which I loved causing with funny stories he enjoyed hearing over again. Jim's passing leaves a gaping hole in our team and a bigger hole in our hearts. May the God of all comfort be with you and your beautiful family through this difficult time.

Bolton family & Jim’s work family,
Marilee and I are very sad for your loss.
I worked w Jim for over 13 years. We shared the exact same day same year wedding anniversary, which we regularly reminded each other of each year. My family spent the evening of the 4th of July with his family c. 2011.
No surprise: Jim bought my old Subaru Legacy Wagon off me after I bought another car, and he soon repaired it and sold it!
Jim was known to say it like it is. For example, perhaps his most oft-used quip at work was, “happiness is not a drawing requirement.” He enjoyed telling the story of the origin of the acronym for a machine at work, the BAT. There are a way above average amount of memorable moments like these, of things Jim said to me.
The photo of Jim is a still from a YouTube video inside the Harris Optics shop.

I met Jim in 1998 because we both had American Motors cars. We became instant friends and went on many adventures buying cars across WNY, searching junkyards, and tinkering. I have countless memories of good times with Jim, dinners at their house, the watching all the kids grow up, with the loving support of their father. In recent years a quick visit would turn into hours long reminiscing with Jim in the barn and telling stories about old cars, while looking at the projects he was currently working on with his boys. Jim is one of my oldest and best friends and I'm truly blessed to have known him for all these years. We will all miss him dearly. My deepest condolences to Amy and the kids.

Amy and family. I am so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. My heart hurts. Jim and I worked daily together. Our Friday lunch outings will be missed. He was a well respected hard working man and will be missed at work and as my friend. Since his diagnosis he has been on my mind everyday. Though they weren't answered in the way we wanted, my self and my prayer partners held Him and His family in prayer daily. They will now in the coming days be for you and the family. The future will be hard. Just keep your eyes on Jesus. He will carry you through this. Again I am so sorry for your loss.

Jim excelled at many things, and especially in passing on a love of and loyalty to family. Just by observing how creative, helpful and friendly his sons and daughter are, it is obvious that together, Jim and Amy passed along traits that are very positive. Modeling a strong faith-filled marriage, Jim and Amy's legacy will be an inspiration to their children, as well as to all of us. James Bolton will be long remembered and greatly missed!

We both remember the story differently, but my version is what will be written for everyone to read.
It was a cold snowy day In Angola,/Eden/north Collins, I’m still not sure where we really grew up with an Angola post office, a North Collins phone number and an Eden school district, It was always difficult to say where we really were from. Nevertheless, we were on the snowmobile heading out for a day of adventure. Before heading out Our parents proclaimed “don’t go on the Creek” And both of us simultaneously chimed in, “ Of course not!”
Now, this is where the story becomes a little confusing, because I remember that I was driving, but Jim remembers that he was driving. I guess it’s pretty critical because one of us (me) Decided to venture out onto the creek where by we almost instantly sunk, and both of us along with the snowmobile went under the ice. I remember Jim grabbing the ice and grabbing the snowmobile and pulling us up. I held onto the snowmobile and he ran up to get dad and the tractor to save both of our lives.
I am looking forward to settling this in heaven, Jim (If I make it). God remembers.
For now I still say thank you for saving my wife, Jim!
